Cultural Creatives...Can We Change the World?

I'm brainstorming ideas on how to create a blog featuring artists, musicians, writers...anyone who feels a need to creatively express themselves. I refer to this group of people as the Cultural Creatives. Cultural Creatives refers to a term coined by sociologist Paul H. Ray to describe a large segment in Western society that has recently developed beyond the standard paradigm of Modernists versus Traditionalists or Conservatists. The concept was presented in 2000 in their book The Cultural Creatives. How 50 Million People Are Changing the World , where they claim to have found that 50 million adult Americans (slightly over one quarter of the adult population at the time) can now be identified as belonging to this group.

Basically, Cultural Creatives tend to feel a deep connection to the earth and environment, want their work to have meaning and contribute to the upliftment of society, embrace change, and have a stronger sense of spirituality (not religious beliefs) than the Moderns or Traditionalists. The creators of the ground-breaking movie What the Bleep Do We Know? used the Cultural Creatives for their business model. Many Cultural Creatives' views are very different from mainstream society, which generates feelings of not fitting in, their voices not heard. The movie helped me realize that this group can become powerful agents of change if we realize our untapped potential and unite together for a common cause.

I hope to post a questionnaire to many Cultural Creatives I know in January regarding the creative process. I know so many incredibly talented people whose work and contribution goes relatively unnoticed, that it is my intention to help these revolutionary creators get more exposure so that working together, we can help change the consciousness of ourselves and the world.
